ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Wednesday the club had signed defender Arturo Astorga to his first professional contract. Astorga will be available for selection in New Mexico’s contest against Sacramento Republic FC on Wednesday night (10 p.m. ET | ESPN+).
The 25-year-old joins United’s First Team after spending the past USL League Two season with New Mexico United U-23. During the League Two season and since its conclusion, Astorga has trained with the United First Team for several months, impressing teammates and technical staff alike with his effort and talent.
“Arturo has earned this opportunity,” said United Head Coach Eric Quill. “Day in and day out, he has put in the effort in training – fighting to make this team better before he ever had a pro contract. We're excited to see him bring that determination to matchday, as well.”
Prior to his time with the United U-23’s, Astorga played college soccer at Azusa Pacific University, where as a junior he earned United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team honors while also garnering All-PacWest Conference honors during his career.
